Our governance team is a mix of passionate, longstanding staff members and independent advisory experts that understand our vision and drive us to deliver on it.
As a 100% employee owned company, our directors are also managers and shareholders of the company. To ensure we are bringing fresh ideas and insights to the table, we have two independent advisors that help us define and implement our strategy and vision.

Managing Director
Dan Tombleson
Dan is a chartered member of Engineering New Zealand, and a chartered Company Director. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and is passionate about all things engineering. He is a true advocate for what we stand for at Lumen - people first, client service, integrity, and adaptability. Dan plays an important role in implementing Lumen's strategic direction and upholding the Lumen values. Dan has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2017.

Brett Barnes
Brett brings almost 20-years experience as a professional engineer in the power industry. With a degree in Electrical Engineering and an interest in Project Management, his background includes working on substations, lines, and various windfarm developments in varying roles, including design, asset management and specialised field testing. Brett currently manages the Asset Management and Electrical Team at Lumen. Brett has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2019.

Rhys Vertue
Rhys manages Lumen's Overhead Lines team in Australia. Rhys is a qualified Civil Engineer with a range of industry experience having worked in both design and asset management projects in New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji. Before joining Lumen, Rhys worked in the Lines Asset Strategy team at ElectraNet. Rhys has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2023.

Ben Thomson
Ben leads the Energy & Carbon Team at Lumen. He has been working in the energy & carbon industry since 2013 and is the current Board Chair for Carbon & Energy Professionals (CEP) NZ. Ben is a Chartered Member of Engineering NZ and is qualified with a BAppSc(Hons) in Energy Management. Ben has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2024.
Independent Advisor
Matt Hannah
Matt is a specialist advisor to mid-sized businesses. He has over 10 years' experience working alongside privately held businesses to help them create and deliver strategies to achieve their aspirations. His in-depth industry experience includes the specialist manufacturing, professional services, and construction industries. Matt specialises in helping businesses deliver value added services, operate efficiently, and deal with challenges. Matt has been an advisor to the Board of Directors since 2021.
