Christchurch Airport

Lumen has worked with Christchurch Airport since 2005 on various projects, leading to over 40% energy & carbon savings. Previous projects include energy audits, solar PV feasibility studies and project implementation support.

Solar PV feasibility study

Problem:

Christchurch Airport was interested in exploring the possibility of reducing energy-related carbon emissions by installing rooftop solar on their passenger terminal.

Solution:

Our solar feasibility study simulated the optimal solar output for the site and undertook financial modelling to determine the economic feasibility and payback of the potential installation.

Results:

We found that the optimal solar configuration would lead to grid electricity savings of ~4,000,000 kWh per year and cost savings of $500,000 per year, with a payback period between 7 and 9 years.
