Coal Boiler Replacement Feasibility Study
Problem:
Godfrey Hirst New Zealand wanted to investigate coal boiler replacement options to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their carbon emissions.
Solution:
Lumen conducted a boiler replacement feasibility study to identify and prioritise the most efficient boiler replacement options for Godfrey Hirst. We also supported Godfrey Hirst with a government funding application to support the replacement.
The government funding application was approved in April 2022. We then worked with Godfrey Hirst to help deliver the project with design/specification, tendering, and project management support.
Results:
Godfrey Hirst replaced their existing 5.4MW coal boiler with a 3MW electric steam boiler. The project was extremely successful, preventing the discharge of over 3000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas emissions per year.
