Case Study
Godfrey Hirst
How Godfrey Hirst secured $1.4M in government co-funding for their energy transition
Godfrey Hirst's Oamaru spinning and dyeing plant needed to move away from coal. Before sizing any replacement system, Lumen's team went back to the data. Proper load analysis and demand reduction work revealed the site only needed 3.0 MW - not the 5.4 MW coal boiler being replaced.

That single insight cut capital cost, resolved the grid connection constraint, and made the project commercially viable. A long-term renewable electricity agreement with Meridian Energy locked in the operating economics.

-
5.4 → 3.0 MW - Boiler capacity right-sized
-
3,000 tCOâ‚‚-e - Eliminated annually
-
$1.4M - Government co-funding secured
Is your Site Eligible?

You may be eligible if your site:
-
Has stationary energy consumption above $200k/year or 3,600 GJ/year (metering grants)
-
Uses between 5,000–100,000 GJ of gas per year (heat pump feasibility)
-
Is a mining or manufacturing facility reporting under NGER with emissions reduction projects of 1,000+ tCO₂-e/year (Low Emissions Industry Program)
