Christchurch Airport

Lumen has worked with Christchurch Airport since 2005 on various projects, leading to over 40% energy & carbon savings. Previous projects include energy audits, solar PV feasibility studies and project implementation support.

Boiler Replacement Feasibility Study

Problem:

Christchurch Airport wanted to replace their diesel and LPG hot water boilers with a low carbon alternative.

Solution:

Lumen investigated the feasibility of various boiler replacement options and recommended the best technologies suitable for implementation at Christchurch Airport.

Results:

Christchurch Airport replaced two diesel and two LPG hot water boilers (3MW) with a ground source heat pump. The Airport’s water cooled chillers were also replaced. This resulted in carbon savings of 1,000 tCO2-e per year.
